In our Nation there are a lot of children from rural areas who are not lucky enough to receive a proper education because of their family situation. These children will play a vital role in the development of the nation when they enter their youth by 2020. If the major portion of them doesn’t have their preliminary education then we cannot achieve the Vision of Dr.Abdul Kalam “Developed Nation by 2020”.

In those families in which one of the parents have passed away or if they are stricken by a major disease or are physically challenged then the eldest son or daughter ends up working (child labor) to financially support the family. More over, If the family is below the poverty line where they were struggling to get a square meal for a day, they cannot afford the education expenses for their children, such as notebooks, bag, Stationary, etc.

The untold stories of these children are a lot and remains unknown to the world.

ARAM Trust which is formed by Mr. J.M.Karthikeyan an employee of TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) has helped 1785 students last year in Thiruvarur District, Tamilnadu by giving all the necessities as schoolbag, notebooks, uniform, stationary, accessories, etc., to continue their education without any problem.

This year we are planning to help 500 Poor students. We have planned to provide all the necessary things to continue their education in Jan 2010 for this educational year 2009-2010.

According to UNICEF, India is the largest producer of child labor and illiteracy on this earth.
A Quarter of World’s total number of Child Labors are in India
Above 70 Million school-going-age children in India who are out of Schools.
Around 12.6 Million children are working at hazardous occupations.
To be very clear, every “Third” household in India has a child at work.

Each and every one of us should extend our support and help at least 1 poor child in continuing their education. If each and every one of us is able to extend a helping hand, then our nation will become a “Developed Nation” by 2020. It is in our hands to make it happen.

Let us “STOP” Thinking, try to Join our hands together, and “START” doing something, to aid in the betterment of our Society and our Nation.

A very small amount from your pocket every month will make a big difference to the life of one child. You can sponsor new/old computer/laptop for our computer centre, books for our library, new/old tailoring machine for tailoring and Embroidery courses, or old clothes for our people. If you have any other plans/suggestions then please let us know, we are waiting to hear from you.
